Where oh where did my lake go?

Usually I like a good storm. To me a stormy afternoon is the perfect time to curl up and read a good book or take a well deserved nap, but the storms that rolled through last week didn't give me any warm and fuzzy feelings. As most people know, I have begrudgingly been forced to camp during my married years. At first I hated and wouldn't go, then I went a couple times one summer, went a few more the next and now I will admit to being a full fledged camper. (And don't you dare roll your eyes, Paul, I am as full fledged a camper as I am going to get.) I still don't enjoy spending the entire day out on the lake. It is really hard on someone with major motion sickness and sun burning issues. And yes I pop Dramamine like candy and basically bathe in SPF 50, but a girl has to do what a girl has to do. I enjoy going to the lake to read, relax and enjoy my friends and family. So you can imagine how surprised I have been at my recent devastation over conditions at Greers Ferry Lake. Not two weeks ago my husband, James, and I along with my parents, pulled our camper to the lake where we leave it all summer and checked on their boat and camper. We just drove around amazed at how high the water was. James and I usually camp at the Shiloh campground. Our regular spots were completely covered with water, so much so you couldn't see picnic tables or trash poles. Friday we began hearing rumors that Shiloh Marina had been blown away and Heber Springs was practically destroyed and we just had to see the damage for ourselves, and check on our camping paraphernalia being stored at the lake. I am thankful to say the marina was still there and our things were okay, but there was just so much damage, it was breathtaking. Seeing the destruction of so many homes and beautiful old trees made me feel like a big horses butt for being worried about my camper when people had lost their homes and all their belongings. We saw several remains of homes on the side of the mountain. The foundation would still be intact but the rest of the home was strewn down and across the mountain. It was just crazy. It was such a beautiful weekend it was hard to image the destruction that had swept through only a day before. Events like these only make it so clear, how our lives can change with every breath and then just keep on going whether we were prepared or not.
Check out this video of storm damage.

I can't imagine how devastating it must be for the folks that lost everything. Clem
