Here is the definition of hope from wikipedia:

Hope is a belief in a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in one's life. Hope implies a certain amount of despair, wanting, wishing, suffering or perseverance -- i.e., believing that a better or positive outcome is possible even when there is some evidence to the contrary.

If there is one thing I've discovered so far in my short travels in life, its this: The one constant in life that helps not only myself but countless others get through life is Hope. Hope is a great thing. Without hope we are truly suffering through the world in misery. Without hope we have no other reason for continuing in our travels. Everyday we hope things will go well. We hope we can get to work on time. We hope to not have an accident. We get out of bed every day going to work hoping to make a better life and future for ourselves and our families.

I've seen firsthand how sometimes, the only thing you have is hope. I've seen circumstances when I thought someone had no chance. They had been diagnosed with a very serious terminal condition. They were given only a few months to live. However, that person didn't give up on life. They clung to the hope that treatments would go well and they would make it through. To the doctor's disbelief they pulled through when it seemed impossible. They could have easily given up (honestly, I had all ready given up for them and thought I would be attending their funeral) but they continually were positive and hoped for a good outcome. Needless to say they have lived well beyond their time frame that was set for them.

I learned a long time ago in a psychology class that the mind is a very powerful thing. Being depressed or being negative can actually be detrimental to your immunities and overall health. Thinking positive and having hope can actually help in healing as well as mental situations.

I believe everyone has the right to hope and that is the one possession no one can take away...no one except you.

So, no matter what goes on in your life, remember things can always be worse....and just hope for a better outcome down the road. I think Hope is one of the best things we have going for us. There's always hope.

I've found this phrase to be meaningful for me, and I think It can be for others too...It truly sums up my philosophy..

"Post tenebras spero lucem" (After Darkness I hope for light...)

Don't we all?
