OMG!!!!!!!!! Where is Sharon Turman when we need her most! She is greatly missed here.
Is that a spam bot?
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the players of the Trumann Gold 14 and under baseball team for this season. While we won and lost about the same amount of games I am proud of these players for sticking it out till the end of the season and not giving up. I think I learned more from them than they did from me. It has been an honor to be their coach again this year. So to Ethan Baker, Tyler Blanchard, Hunter Creecy, Dillon Dulaney, Taylor May, Cody McHalffey, Tyler Miller, Patrick Rice, Keefer Roach, Zac Stone and Kyle Vincent I say a big thank you and I will miss you guys. Also a big thank you goes to Earnie Link for helping coach this team.
Earnie's assistance was invaluable. I don't think we could have done it without him. Also, I need to thank the parents and grandparents and brothers and sisters who all put up with me again this year. I think this is a group of special young men and believe it or not every decision we made as coaches was with the best of intentions for the good of the team as a whole. I just wanted to let you all know I will never forget these players and the memories they have given me. It has been special for me.
Thank you all and best wishes for your future!
Danny Harvison
Thank you for being our coach again this year Danny! You are the BEST! It has been fun playing ball these last few years. There are coaches out there that can make playing baseball feel more like a chore. You pushed us and taught us valuable lessons about the sport we all love. Thanks for the memories! I will miss you too. See ya around.

I Think it's sad,The ones that took over the,Baseball teams has change the rules like they have. Were some kids did'nt get to play and theres still the fighting going on.Isnt that a good for the kids in,Trumann. It's pretty bad when ours kids in,Trumann has to go to another city just to play ball. And that team ask why your having to here.Maybe some good people will read this and help the kids that's still wanting to play ball can.
What is going on with T-Ball, baseball, and softball. Kids not being allowed to sign up and teams are still players short. Nothing being organized at the ballparks. Who is running things in Trumann. All parents need to speak out about these problems. My sons game was cancelled today because four teams were schedule on the same field at the same time. Then I found out the kids would not recieve trophies this year. My kid will play in Jonesboro next year if the stuff keeps happening.
First and foremost... Most adults forget that baseball and softball programs are established for "KIDS". It "SHOULD" be "ALL ABOUT THE KIDS". Not adult egos and winning and losing a game. These children will remember the experiences, good and bad, both on and off the ballfield for the rest of their lives. Here it is May 30th and the "SUMMER" programs are over. What are the kids going to do the rest of the summer? If they are smart, they will call their buddies, grab their bats and go down to the local ballfields, if they are allowed to use them, and play some "Sandlot" games...No Adults, No umpires.. Just some kids having a great time with their buddies. If you are not happy with the program, get involved, find out "why" things are happening the way they are and demand answers. Hey, it is your money that is paying for these programs... Just my OPINION !!!
The sports programs currently under city control are administered by the Trumann Parks and Recreation Committee which was established 7 years ago by the city council while Jack Coggins was Mayor. I would suggest that anyone who is unhappy with any aspect of these programs go to the committee with their concerns. I served on the committee for 6 years and resigned about this time last year and therefore have no say in any matter related other than the right to state my opinion. I know that one of the problems we faced constantly was to have more people involved in the decision making process. It seemed to us that sometimes no one would speak up until after some decision was made that they didn't like. One of the biggest problems we seemed to have was enough communcation between the committe and the public. I will not and can not defend the current committees policies and decisions as I wasn't there when these decisions were made. However, from what I understand the season being so much shorter was caused by the change to the affiliation with UTRIP baseball instead of LITTLE LEAGUE baseball. The schedules were set with the UTRIP tournament dates in mind. The rules mentioned above are set by the organizational affiliation. For example, if you play UTRIP you play by UTRIP rules. Since the all star teams play in these tournaments the season has to end early to give time for these teams to be picked and practice. This greatly concerns me because its like we are moving things to accommodate the all star teams when the majority of kids in our programs are not involved with all-stars. I personally didn't like the changes that were made for this season with the amount of local participation level being the main reason. I did coach the 14 yr old baseball team and at this point wish there were some way to create an independent summer league for them to play in. As I stated before this is just my opinion. However, hopefully the current committee is smart enough to learn from their mistakes and learn what works and what doesn't. That last statement is the exact reason people need to speak up and let the committee or even the mayor know of their concerns. If no one speaks up the committee would be operating under the false assumption that everything is o.k. If nothing has changed the committee is scheduled to meet the third Tuesday of every month. One can verify this with the mayors office.
Respectfully;
Danny Harvison
Well, there you go. The former P & R committee member told you the procedure for airing your complaints. Now that the season is over, don't sat back and complain until next Spring, do something while this is fresh on your mind. But as I stated in the previous post, please keep the people in mind that these programs were established for.."THE CHILDREN".
I think the Children have been forgotten for years now. With all the team stacking and the picking of the all-stars! For Years rules have changed for the best for one or two teams and the children have been tossed to the side. These coaches seem to have too much personal stake in these teams!
I did speak up for my two Grandkids, but alot of good it did. And Trumann wonders why the kids are on the streets with nothing to do but get into trouble. But intill they get someone over it that knows what there doing it's not going to do any good nomatter what we say.
If the programs are going to end this soon the City of Trumann should start some other activity for the kids to get into. Our kids got out of school on the 23rd and the season ended a week later. I am lucky enough to get to spend most of the summers with my kids and make sure they stay out of trouble but for most other people keeping their child involved in some activity is the only way to keep them out of trouble. We have got to do something to help the kids out!
Again, It is all about the kids. The splash pad is great for the 12 and under kids and also the skatepark if you know how to skateboard. Some activities with bicycles would be great. Getting the kids out and off the couch with some fun things would be good. Something FREE that doesn't involve going very far is what we need. Maybe the person in charge of sports for the city can figure something out.
The SkatePark??? That to me is a joke. I have been by there numerous times and I see kids smoking, cursing, and being rude to the smaller kids. My kids have been told to stay away from the skate park. I think it should be supervised!
Not stereotyping anyone. In fact, I have been by there and seen kids who don't even know how to use a skateboard, smoke. It is just one of those places that all towns have were the kids meet and experiment in things they shouldn't! As far as being involved in a summer sport. That is a wonderful thing to do with our kids! Oh and by the way Bryce, If you are around you kids then they are not going to participate in those things even if they see at the sports complex or where ever you are talking about. We had the kids and we should be more responsible with them and keep our eyes and ears open at ALL times!
I think the skate was a very nice thing the city did it's one thing that help the kids stay off the streets they maybe a few that goes up there that don't need to but all they have to do is call the cops and they are there. The ones that are up there to skate, are in the day time,The ones are up there for other reason are at night.
The skate park was a nice gesture for those wanting it. I believe there was a young man going around getting a petition signed to get this done as well. We need more young people like! Fight for what you believe in and never give up. That is what I teach my children.
The skate park is nice but as I have said before, it would be nice to see a city official actually drive by, get out and talk with the people who use the park from time to time. Someone who will just let them know the place is being watched over. I mean why have something nice in our town if we are just going to let it go. Right?
I just wanted to say GOOD LUCK to all our All Star baseball teams!! I understand that all or most of the Delta teams (which are a combination of local teams) have been winning in the tournaments. I believe they will be competing in state tournaments and I just wanted to say good luck to all the teams in all age groups. You represent our area well.
All the Delta teams (ages 7 through 11) won their tournament in Pocahontas in June and will compete in the state tournament this weekend or next, depending on if they play in Greenbriar or Beebe.
Are the Wildcats hungry enough to reach the state playoffs this year in football?
Wonder who the new parks committee chairman will be and what effect the city councils decision will have on the parks and rec programs for the city. What happens now?
Been thinking about this for a while, I wonder if there would be any interest in forming an adult volleyball league.
RE: to post Wonder Who??
Reading with amazement of the decision to NOT reappoint Mr. Jay Paul Woods to the Park and Recreation Sports Committee. People attending the council meeting stated the reason of the decision was that the sports program revenues were down for 2008. A Chairman of a committee that does not even personally handle the money, but he is responsible?? A VOLUNTEER who does not get paid for the countless number of hours of committee meetings, coaching teams, and striving to make decisions for the youth of the city of Trumann. The chairman does not have a vote on the committee unless there is a tie. Did
Mr. Woods get a hearing with the council finance committee to at least address the revenue concerns? Which brings up another point. Was there not people HIRED (PAID) to oversee the sports complex, register children, host tournaments, secure and collect donations for sponsorships, set schedules, order uniforms, oversee concession stands and be responsible for the FINANCES? Handle the money?? Why is Mr. Woods being blamed for these individuals responsibilities? Can anyone explain all this to the citizens of Trumann? There must be at least 5 or 6 people waiting in line to be the next chairman if this is the way they will be treated.
Looks like the council and mayor have done it again. They don't seem to care about fairness. There does not seem to be any shred of justice in the decision concerning Mr. Woods. There are a couple of things that really disturb me concerning this. First, Alderman James Baker voted to remove Mr. Woods from the parks committee. He shouldn't have voted or be allowed to vote. Mr. Baker is being opposed by Mr. Woods for his council seat in the upcoming election. I know this one vote wouldn't have changed the outcome but there is a matter of principle involved. This to me is a definite conflict of interest issue. The man simply shouldn't have been allowed to vote. To me this is similar to Scotty Jones being on the council and not voting on issues pertaining to water and sewer issues. At least Mr. Jones had the decency to abstain when those votes came up. But not Mr. Baker! But this is the way our city operates.
The second issue I have concerns the reason given for Mr. Woods dismissal. The reason being that the sports programs have lost money. That may be a valid reason for the vote result, however how come the person the mayor hired to run the city sports programs is not being held accountable? How come she didn't lose her job? Last year Sharron Turman, who was in the same position, was fired because her husband came to the complex? How come Ms. Parker still has this job when the program has lost money? If the money problem is so severe as to let the parks chairman go, then why does the person in charge who is a city employee not get the same? Which is worse, someones spouse coming to the park or the programs losing money?
This whole thing smacks of favoritism and not impartiality.
Tincan took the words right off my keyboard!!

Did anyone else see what Nettleton did on OUR field after the game tonight? VERY TACKY!!!
wasn't there, what happened? u think maybe it was in response to the "T" that was painted on Nettleton's field last year?
Oh I'm sure that was exactly the reason. After the game and all our players exited the field, a lot of their students and cheerleaders brought a stuffed animal (that was supposed to be a wildcat) weaved through a spear and stuck it in the middle of the field and did some kind of dance around it. They tried to light it on fire, but the wind was too strong. Their coaches just stood off to the side and watched the whole time. If Trumann kids would have done that on the Nettleton field, they would have been arrested, no doubt. And what was the deal with a Jonesboro policeman there?
Just shows some people have no class whatsoever........
And yet Trumann and the school system continues to have a bad reputation. Very backwards if you ask me!
