When is someone going to speak of the over abundance of drugs in the school and town. How exactly is the law doing anything about this.

The newspaper usually has something every week about someone getting arrested for drugs of some sort. Anyone has the right to contact the police chief, mayor, or city council members to ask questions about what is going on that concerns citizens. As far as school, most of the problem lies in the home. Parents depend on the school system to raise their children because they are lazy deadbeats and this is just unrealistic. I promise you any town around here has the same problems as Trumann.

I wouldn't say there is an OVER abundance of drugs here. I'd have to agree with Jill and go one step further. Its not a local problem, or a state problem, its a National problem. By saying "law", do you mean the criminal justice system or police? Sometimes people refer to police as the "law". I can guarantee you, we enforce the laws but are not "the law". If we were the law, I'm sure the general consensus would be that several of these "habitual offenders" would still be in prison instead of out on parole or probation. I believe everyone needs a second chance, but these folks who are arrested two, three, four and more times for "cooking dope" just need a permanent residence inside a state facility. But, we as officers are not "the law". That responsibility falls on your prosecuters and circuit judges. Those are the folks you need to get in touch with and ask the tough questions. I promise, if you ask any officer they will say that is one of the things they want the most. Drug manufacturers and Drug dealers off the streets. Unforunately, it doesn't always work that way. But, its not for our lack of trying.

I agree with Gary on this one. To me I feel the reason why it seems so big around here is because its a small town. Everyone knows everyone and if you don't know that person personally you know of them or know the face. You hear of it more because it is passed down the grapevine. I'm originally from Jonesboro and my husband is originally from Memphis and the drugs here is nothing compared to those two places. Drugs are every where and in every town newspaper you are going to read about a drug bust. The police officers on the other hand I think has handled the situation really well heck you can't turn the corner without seeing a police officer. You can't get pulled over for a simple traffic violation without them searching your vehicle. You can't sit in your own yard for a BBQ with your neighbors and have a beer without them stopping and seeing if anyone there is on drugs or causing a problem. But, I look at this way if it keeps the streets safe and my children safer from the drug dealers cool with me just cooperate and let them do their job because even if you don't agree (because I totally don't agree that I can't sit in my yard and have a beer without getting a ticket or getting my vehicle searched just because I have a break light out)because if you say something you get in trouble. So, I think to myself they are just doing their job to keep me and my children safe. It's the justice system that will let the meth cookers go if they go to rehab not the police officers. So when the justice system can fix the problem then the drug dealers will be off the street. So until then we can just pray for our officers in duty, pray for our children, pray for each other, and hope for the best.

I have a question about a Feb 14th story. It is about Gene Litters who was charged with rape & incest of his step-daughter. Is there another way to find out more info on this story? I live in MO & if this is the right G.L. I think I know him & this just makes me SICK! He has another daughter who is in the 2nd grade & I just pray that nothing has happened to her! Not living in Ark, I dont know of any sites to look this info up further. It is very disturbing!

Thanks!

We need a new judge. Its as simple as that.

Concerned, I don't think he has been to court over these charges yet.

1fan, go back and read my post again, if you haven't all ready. Its the circuit judges and prosecutors who control the plea bargains and sentences. Make your voice heard to those individuals. They have the power to change things.

There are two types of people in this world:

The people whom are better with words than actions. And the people whom are better with actions than with words.

A combination of the two, well the possibilities are endless.

A wise man once said: 'YOU must be the change you wish to see in this world".

If you really want to make a difference, you must be that combination. Take the advice presented.

It doesn't ever hurt to try something, I always say.
