Scooters, motorized cycles and motorized bicycles
Posted Wednesday, July 16, at 5:40 PM
Fuel is high and wages are low, this seems to be the norm for the past few years. This has triggered a fast growing market for fuel-efficient vehicles.

The past few months has really been tough on our pocket books in regards to fuel, so now people have started riding scooters, motorized cycles and motorized bicycles.

There has been a belief that if a vehicle is under 50cc then a person doesn't have to have a driver's license, liability insurance or tags. The truth is that all motorized vehicles in this state must be insured to operate upon any public roadway.

The driver of any motorized vehicle must possess a valid driver's license or appropriate driver's permit for their particular vehicle. Any motorized vehicle under 50cc or equivalent to that does not have to be registered. That means that the vehicle does not need a tag.

The vehicles must have safety features such as a horn, signal devices, head and tail lights and other things that are required of a car.

Any driver under the age of 21 who is operating a motorcycle, motorized bicycle or scooter must wear a helmet. Anyone under 16 is not allowed to have a passenger or to drive without eye protection. A windshield is not considered eye protection.

Anyone under 8 years of age can't be on a motorcycle as a passenger or otherwise upon public roads.

There are other stipulations to this law, but the most important ones I have mentioned here.

Our concerns are your safety as well as the safety of others around you. This is intended to give fair warning that we are going to become very strict on this law, so please take this warning seriously.

The reason for the crack-down is because of the influx of scooters in town upon Highway 463. It is just a matter of time before there is an accident and someone gets hurt or even worse. A minimal accident would cause damage to a vehicle and without insurance the accident would not be covered.

I will run this article through the month of July. I don't want anyone to receive any citations for this, times are too tough for you to lose money for something that is so easily corrected.

Daytime invasion theft
Posted Wednesday, June 11, at 1:56 PM

It's that time year. The weather is nice and lots of people are out and about around town. So I am sending this friendly reminder to Trumann residents. Keep your house doors locked at all times, even if you are at home! Just last week a Trumann man and his daughter were in his backyard washing a car and someone entered the front door of his home and stole cash, jewelry and credit cards. The thief then tried to enter the neighbors' home and the alarm ran them off...
