Mr. Smith was a member of the Apostolic Church in Tyronza. He served in the U.S. Army and was a WWII veteran. Mr. Smith had been a resident of Poinsett County for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Homes Smith; two daughters, Nancy Smith and Ivy Russell; and his parents Frank and Maudie Smith.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Nellie Scott Smith; sons, J.L. Smith of Tyronza, Jimmy Smith of Fla., Edward Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jerry Smith and Billy Smith both of Marked Tree; daughters, Mary Burchfield of Trumann and Josie Hatley of Marked Tree; sisters, Elise Witt, Edna Davis and Shirley Ward all of Trumann, Merle Hook of Tyronza and Helen Turner of Payne, Ark.; brothers, Sam Smith and Clarence Smith both of Trumann, Rex Smith and Earl Smith both of Marked Tree; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith were held March 27, in the Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home in Tyronza with Rev. James Raines officiating.
