William Sharp

William Leon Sharp, 70, of Harrisburg died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at the Woodbriar Nursing Home in Harrisburg.

He was born Jan. 1, 1933, in Savannah, Tenn., the son of Joe Sidney Sharp and Linnie Pearl (Shepherd) Sharp. He married Dorothy Lindsey on Dec. 17, 1955, and they enjoyed 47 years together. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a former member of the ABATE Motorcycle Club and also loved to show his antique car at various functions. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Maurine Bethune.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Sharp of the home; four sisters, Lena Mae Martin of Milledgeville, Tenn., Imogene Williams of Round Rock, Texas, Nell Champion of Wynne and Joyce Hogan of Weiner; one brother, Bill Sharp of Harrisburg; three daughters, Debbie Doty of Jonesboro and Cathy Reddman and Celeste Tanner, both of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Robert Charles Rowland, Jr., Brandon Tanner, Kaitlyn Tanner, Sarah Tanner and Ryan Long and one great-grandson, Charlie Rowland.

Graveside services were Friday, April 25, at the Farm Hill Cemetery near Harrisburg with full military honors. The Rev. John Lindsey officiated the ceremony. Active pallbearers were: Michael Hamrick, Randy Wigginton, Don Detering, Carl Long, Joe Long and Ricky Bruce. Honorary pallbearers were: William Weeks, Archie Smith, Bill Witt, Dr. Vonda Houchin, Dr. Ben Owens, the staff of Woodbriar Nursing Home and the staff of Lifeline Paramedics. Visitation was held Thursday at the funeral home.
