She lived in Trumann from 1937 until 1954, where she graduated from Trumann High School in 1954. She attended First Assembly of God Church in East Prairie and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Sikeston.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elis L. (Opie) Newton; her second husband, James Larry Evans; four brothers; five sisters and her parents, M.H. and Edith Hankins Bennett.
She is survived by one son, Tim Newton of East Prairie; one daughter, Cherry Mansfield of East Prairie; one brother; George Bennett of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Betty Funk of East Prairie; five grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Newton, Anthony Mansfield, Gabrielle Newton and Payton Terry, all of East Prairie, and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 10, 2003, in the Shelby Chapel with Bro. Tom Snavely officiating. Burial followed in the Sikeston City Cememtery in Sikeston, Mo., with Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Danny and Lee Bright, David Terry, Jr., Melvin Bennett, Tony Higgins and Jessie Wasson.
