She attended Mount St. Scholastica Academy in Atchison, Kan. and graduated from Tipton High School in 1947.
She is survived by her husband of the home Richard F. (Dick) Schmidt of 57 years, two daughters and four sons; Susan Schmidt of Prairie Village, KS, Doris and Dennis Penter; Wayne and Janet Schmidt, Steve and Kathy Schmidt, Donald and Kathy Schmidt, all of Trumann, Dr. David and Paula Schmidt of Little Rock; three brothers and one sister, Norman and Elmer Koerkenmeier, Tipton, MO; (Ret.) Col. Leo Koerkenmeier, Vienna, VA; Rita Krapf, St. Louis, MO; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Grandsons served as pallbearers: Dennis Penter, Jr. and Zachary Penter, Courtney Schmidt, Donald Schmidt, Jr., Jonathan Schmidt and Logan Schmidt.
Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren Dr. Genie Burnett, Kristie Dickson, Andrea Carlisle, Sarah Schmidt, Isabella Schmidt and Lathrop Schmidt; friends - Charles Zipfel, Hubert Brodell, Bob Myshka, Bud Lamar, Morris Simmons, David Ferguson, Dr. Derrick Woods and Dr. Trent Lamb.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents and one infant son, John.
She lived most of her life in Trumann and Jonesboro and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church for 54 years. She was involved in the Women's Guild and was a Curillistas. She devoted her life to her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sibling and friend. She was passionate about her faith, good food, music and her pets. Our heart felt thanks go out to Virginia Chaffin and other members of the North East Arkansas Area Agency on Aging, as well as St. Elizabeth's Place and St. Bernard's Medical Center for her care.
The Funeral Mass was on Monday, March 20, 2006 at Blessed Sacrament Church. Eva was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions can be made to the Blessed Sacrament Building Fund P.O. Box 1735 Jonesboro, AR 72403 as a lasting memorial.
