Weems was born in Pontotoc, Miss., and had lived most of her lifetime in Trumann. She and her husband J. L. owned and operated Weems Lumber Company and Weems Motel for many years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Trumann.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Luther "J.L." Weems, Jr. who died in 1986; one son, John L. Weems, III; one brother, Dexter Matthews and was the daughter of the late Lon and Ludie McMurry Matthews.
She is survived by one daughter, Laura Walton of Trumann; one son, Dr. Alan Weems of Mandeville, LA; four sisters, Lou Donald Dudley of Trumann, Wilma Dene Pope of Diamondhead, Miss., Lonnie Frank Armstrong of Lake City and Beth Martin of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Neil Matthews of West Fork; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were Monday, April 24 at the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro with Dr. Tad Rogers officiating. Burial followed with Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers were Don Walton, Jr., John Alan Weems, Brian Rice, John Weems, IV, Nathan Wilhite and Cory Wilhite.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann.
