He was born in Light and he had lived in Trumann for the past 75 years. He was a retired farmer, a bus driver for the Trumann Public School system for 25 years and was a member of the Viva Drive Church of Christ.
Evans was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Faith Bruner; two brothers, Henry Evans and Elmer Evans and his parents, John Franklin and Quixie Swindle Evans.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Slinkard Evans of the home; two sons, Danny and Patricia Evans of Trumann and Teddy and Debbie Evans of Batesville; one sister, Mary Lou Bryan of Austin, Tex. and seven grandchildren, DeAnna Ballard, Amanda Walters, Andrea Bruner, Sara Bobbitt, Wesley Evans, Dustin St. John and Misty Sturges and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service were Friday, May 12in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann with Joe Spangler officiating. Burial followed in the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro.
Active pallbearers were Wesley Evans, Chriss Walters, Lee Ballard, Chad Bobbitt, Gary Bruner, Lance England and Dustin St. John.
Honorary pallbearers were Bob Slinkard, Donnie England, Dwayne Qualls, Howard Slinkard, Tobe Slinkard, Kenny Dunman and C.M. Murphy.
