Born Etta Elizabeth Qualls in Brookland on February 10, 1924, she lived in the Central community near Harrisburg all her life. She was a member of the County Line Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Chester Holmes of the home; 11 children, James Donald Holmes and Kathy Dickens of Trumann, Janie Little and Mai Snow of Jonesboro, Rickey Holmes of Bono, Glen Holmes, Tommy Holmes, and Sheila Armstrong of Harrisburg, Larry Holmes and Mark Holmes of Pensacola, Fla., and Ronnie Holmes of Piggott; five sisters and four brothers, Elouise Wilson, Patsy Stalnaker, Frank Qualls and Thomas Qualls of Harrisburg, Charles Qualls of Fisher, Ernestine Lowery of Montrose, Mich., Maxine Wilson of St. Louis, Mo., Arthur Qualls of Batesville, Miss., and Carolyn Davis of Vicksburg, Miss.; 26 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Mattie Sue Qualls, sons, Bobby Wayne and Johnnie Ray Holmes, sisters: Mary Sue Qualls, Stella Louise Qualls and Geraldine Qualls, two brother, Virle Qualls and Oliver Qualls.
Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with Mark Weston officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pisgah cemetery in Jonesboro.
Active pallbearers will be Chris Holmes, Dan Holmes, Arnold Miller, James Hooker, Justin Jones and Charlie Goad.
Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Winningham, Jackie Winningham, Odell Everhart, J.F. Winningham, Jason Harris, Gary Don Holmes, Adam Holmes, Joshua Holmes, Brandon Holmes, Jeremy Holmes, Taylor Holmes and Ryan Miller.
