James Allen Vail, Sr. died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 in Lennox, S.D., at the age of 89.

He was born in Caledonia, Miss., the son of the Robert Gillian and Eva Green Stevens Vail and had lived in Trumann for most of his lifetime. He had lived and worked in Chicago for 16 years before returning to Trumann after retirement. Mr. Vail was a retired security guard and of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Thomas Vail, and his parents. He is survived by four daughters, Twila Ann Czech of Palos Hills, Ill., Betty Jean Vasquez of Chicago, Ill., Sue Wepsiec of Steger, Ill., and Joan McDonald of Leeds, Ala.; one son, James Allen Vail, Jr. of Lennox, S.D.; two sisters, Pearl Jean Kutsey and Desi Baines both of Trumann; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were Friday, Dec.1 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann, with Dr. Vic Stepka officiating. Burial followed in the Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro.

Pallbearers were Peter Czech, Keith Skudlarek, Thomas Czech and David Hagood.
