He was born in Mountain View on August 23, 1923, the son of the late Ellis Newton and Willy Mertyl Wooton Wilson. He had lived most of his lifetime in Trumann and was a retired Singer Company employee and a member of the Providence Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Wilson; two sons, Earnest Lee Wilson and James Wilson; two grandchildren; five brothers, Woodrow, Roy, Clarence, Ernest and William "Bill" Wilson and his parents.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Gard of Trumann; a son, Eddie Joe Wilson, Sr., of Trumann; four sisters, Lilly Williams, and Lillian Horton both of Trumann, Geraldine Watson of Sarasota, Fla., and Ruby Wilson of Sebastpol, Calif.; one brother, Howard Wilson of Houston, Tex., 11 Grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 30 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann, with Rev. Tommy Jordan officiating. Burial followed in the Wilson Cemetery East of Trumann.
Pallbearers were Ricky Williams, Billy Williams, Eddie Joe Wilson, Jr., Douglas Timbs, and Larry Beck.
