Rev. Virgil Elmo Tackett

Rev. Virgil Elmo Tackett of Trumann died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro at the age of 86.

He was born in Lunsford on Saturday, July 31, 1920, son of the late Ithmer John and Clara Marie Moore Tackett. He lived most of his lifetime in Trumann and was a retired minister, farmer and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Rev. Tackett was preceded in death his wife, Alma Jewell Tackett in 1996; three daughters, Verniece Lairson, Mary May and Evelyn Manley; one sister; one brother and his parents.

He is survived by a daughter, Beatrice Murphy of Trumann; two sons, Alvin Tackett of Weiner and Leroy Lairson of Trumann; a brother, Charles Tackett of Michigan City, Ind.; 20 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 11 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann, with Rev. Carl Winkles and Rev. Bobby Davis officiating. Burial followed in the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro.

Pallbearers were O'Neal Barnett, Raymond Hill, Jr., Roy Lairson, Gary Barker, Troy Lairson and James Durfey.

Honorary pallbearers were Nathaniel Tackett, Harold Campbell, Ronnie Tackett, Richard Ray, Dickie Daniels and Michael Chavez.
