She was born in Jonesboro on July 18, 1922 to the late George Clifford and Frocie Elizabeth Hicks Lackey.
Young was a 1941 graduate of Trumann High School and was married to her husband, Loice Terrell Young, for 63 years before his death in 2004. Young lived in Trumann most of her life before moving to Good Shepherd Nursing Center in Little Rock in November 2006 to be closer to her children and grandchildren when she could no longer live at home. During her brief residence at Good Shepherd, she was known by both residents and staff for her beautiful smile.
Young was a loving wife and mother who for many years was active in her church and community. She was co-owner of Young's Big Star where she worked part time while being a homemaker and mother.
Young was active in Trumann Public Schools Parent Teacher Association and was a charter member of the Poinsettia Club and the Century Arts and Civics Club. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Trumann and for many years taught Sunday School, led the Girls Auxiliary and sang in the church choir. She was a beautiful, talented woman and her love for music was passed on to her children. Throughout her life, one of her greatest joys was hearing her daughters sing.
Young was preceded in death by her beloved husband; her parents; two sisters, Rhonda Lackey Wofford and Betty Lackey Smart; two brothers, Will Lackey and Clifford Lackey, Jr and one great-grandchild, Niklaus Kane Henson.
She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Susan Walters of Conway; her daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Mark Borton of Maumelle; six grandchildren, Chad Couch of Fayetteville, Chris Couch of Pocahontas, Cammy Walters, Brandon Walters, and Allison Wells of Conway and Ashley Funderburg of Lewisville, Tex. and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sunday, Feb. 11 at First Baptist Church in Trumann, with Dr. Tad Rogers and Jamison May officiating. Burial followed in the Jonesboro Memorial Park with Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann in charge of arrangements
Pallbearers were Mark Borton, Chad Couch, Chris Couch, Brandon Walters, John Walters and Ronnie Thompson.
