He was born in Rudy and moved to Jonesboro in 1974 from Tampa, Fla. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro where he served as a deacon and a choir member.
After graduating from Trumann High School, he attended Arkansas State University and UAMS Medical School. He completed his medical residency in Tampa before moving to Jonesboro.
He was a member of the Arkansas Medical Society, Jonesboro Rotary, Trumann Alumni Association, Craighead -- Poinsett Medical Society and an avid Razorback fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jessie Basinger and his daughter, Marsha Basinger.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of the home; one son, Matt Basinger of Little Rock; one brother, Gary John Basinger of Idaho Falls, Idaho; two sisters, Dorothy Martin of Trumann and Ann Martin of Little Rock and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A private graveside service was held Wednesday, Feb. 21 followed by a celebration of his life at the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro with Dr. Bruce Tippitt officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of First Baptist Church, members of Rotary and members of the Medical Society.
