Robert Elroy Thomas

Robert Elroy (Bobby) Thomas, 76, of Jonesboro passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 at his residence.

He was born in Montgomery, Ala. and lived most of his lifetime in the Shady Grove Community outside of Trumann before moving to Jonesboro several years ago. He wrestled for many years and trained a host of wrestlers in the local community. He was known by the wrestling name of "Pappy Yokum." He was a mechanic and ran a service station in Trumann and Bay area most of his life. His favorite hobbies were cat fishing, wrestling and reading. He was of the Baptist belief.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Jean Jones Thomas who died in 2003; a grandson, Steven Kelley; one sister; two brothers and was the son of the late John Logan and Stella Aileen Brock Thomas.

He is survived by three daughters, Joan Griffin of Jonesboro, Patsy Kelly and Teresa Shuburte both of Trumann; two sons, Donald Thomas of Jonesboro and Roger Thomas of Trumann; two sisters, Marie Meeker and Almeda Meeker both of Jonesboro; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relative and his little companion "Little Bit."

Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 21 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with Rev. Tommy Jacobs officiating. Burial followed in the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro.

Pallbearers were Johnny Griffin, Jason Coin, Robbie Thomas, Billy Don Thomas, Jason Thomas and Brian Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers were Ren Shuburte, Ron Meeker, Dalton Reed and all of his old time wrestling and fishing buddies. He was very loved and will be greatly missed by all.
