Alta Mae Newell, 74, of Trumann died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Bay, she had lived in Trumann for the past 50 years. She was a retired nurses aide and of the Assembly of God faith.

Newell was preceded in death by her husband, James Noel Newell; one daughter, Ester Kathleen Addison; two grandchildren, Jimmy Allen Hilliard and Johnny Olen Hilliard; two sisters; three brothers and her parents, Theodore Maxfield and Ester Ellen Davis Henry.

Survivors include three daughters, Vanessia Ann Hammonds of Trenton, Tenn., Patricia Aline Brown of Trumann and Ina Delores Dawson of Jonesboro; one son, Durrell Wayne Newell of Trumann; four sisters, Bitha Barnes and Jane Loggins both of Jonesboro, Louise Pearcy of Onley, Ill. and Inez Broadaway of Imboden; two brothers, Albert Henry of Hardy and Olen Henry of Denver, Colo.; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Wednesday June 6 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with Rev. Bobby Brooks officiating. Burial followed in the Holly Springs Cemetery in Harrisburg.

Pallbearers were Derrick Fletcher, Woody Adams, D.J. Newell, Jr., Andy Deason, Ronald Davidson, Danny Trotter, Lee Watson and Bryan Fletcher.
