Jewell Vivian Layer

Jewell Vivian Layer, 89, of Jonesboro died on Friday, June 29, 2007 at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Layer was born on March 25, 1918 in Poinsett County near Harrisburg to James Arthur and Gertrude Foster Henderson. She taught school about four years and later operated Singer Gate Cafe for about sixteen years. She was a member of the County Line Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie M. Layer, three sisters, Dorothy Heckmann, Dove Smith, and Dalton Henderson; four brothers, Daniel, Edgar, Newt, and Fred Henderson.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy and his wife, Sammie Layer of Bartlett, Tenn.; one daughter, Marolyn and her husband Charles Qualls of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Robin Spencer of St. Joseph, Mo., Whitney Kennon of Jonesboro, and Sherri Holden, Jamie and Justin Prince of Harrisburg; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sunday, July 1 at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Alan Ashlock officiating. Burial followed in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
