Winford Hays Mixon

Winford Hays "Pete" Mixon, 78, of Trumann, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007 at NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Jackson, Miss., he had lived in Trumann for the past 56 years and was formerly of Marked Tree. He was a retired employee of the former Singer Company and Roach Mfg. in Trumann and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Mixon was preceded in death by four sisters; three brothers and his parents, Hillard Monroe and Ellie Eunice Todd Mixon.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Bonnie Lavanda Cook Mixon of the home; one daughter, Lavanda Jo Mixon of Trumann; one son, Steven Hays Mixon and his wife Beverley of Trumann; one grandson, Steven Hays Mixon II of Trumann; two brothers, Carl Mixon of Tulare, Calif., and Charles Mixon of Little Rock.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the First Baptist Church in Trumann with Dr. Tad Rogers, Rev. Jamison May and Rev. Brett Witcher officiating. Burial followed in the Jonesboro Memorial Park in Jonesboro under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann.

Pallbearers were Robert Earl McGowan, Michael McGowan, Joe Mixon, Scott Mixon, Wayne Ward, Johnny Ward, David Ward and Grayson Mixon.

Honorary pallbearers were the men of First Baptist Church.
