John Wesley Doty

John Wesley Doty, 84, J.W. or J. to his friends and family, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2007 at St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro.

He is now home with the Lord and his oldest son Larry, who he loved very much. Doty grew up on the farm in Mississippi before moving to Arkansas during the depression. He continued to farm until he started working at the Singer Co., in Trumann. He retired from the Singer Co., when it shut down operation in the 1980's. He was a resident of Trumann since the early 50's. During his lifetime, Doty made many friends not only in Trumann, but anywhere that he visited. He never met a stranger. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be missed. During WWII, Doty worked with the Civil Service repairing damaged military aircraft.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son Larry Doty; three brothers, Henry, Leland, and Hollis Doty and his parents, Henry Wesley and Autie Bell Moore Doty.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Thelma L. Williams Doty of the home; two daughters, Linda (Farrel) Roberts of Harrisburg and Kathy (Danny) Cochran of Idaho Falls, Idaho; one son, Garry Doty of Jonesboro; a grandson, Sean Doty, whom he had a very special bond with of Jonesboro; one sister, Ruby Holt of Lake City, a sister-in-law, Erma Doty of Bay; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren..

Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 13 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann with Rev. Paul Vincent officiating. Burial followed in the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro.

Active pallbearers were Sean Doty, Donald Martin, Jerry Myers, Paul Williams, Steve Williams and James Elwyn Hinds.
