"We played really well defensively," said coach Brian Haynes. "We had no errors and we were really never tested. Overall it was a good first game."
The top of the Lady Cat batting order recorded all the runs with Shea Holman leading the way. She went 2 for 3, scoring two runs and knocking in one run while Molly Begley was 1 for 3 with three runs, Kaelynn Benson went 1 for 4 with one run and Cecilia Moye scored a run.
To go along with her outstanding performance on the mound, which included four strikeouts against three walks, Brewer also added to the effort offensively with a 1 for 3 day, scoring one of the Lady Wildcats' last runs.
Arial Vance took the loss for the Lady Indians.
Trumann 12, BIC 2
The Lady Wildcats upped their record to 2-0 Monday afternoon when they hosted and soundly defeated the Lady Mustangs of BIC 12-2. Brewer once again took the mound to open the game, pitching three innings. She then turned the duties over to Benson, who finished out the game, pitching the last two innings.
After seating the Lady Mustangs with no runs in the top of the first, Trumann came on to take a 5-0 lead as in order, Benson, Moye, Christin Guthrie and Brewer singled then scored, while Holman doubled before being knocked home moments later.
"Our bats were really working well," said Haynes. "Haley walked five, but she worked her way out of it.
Moye Holman and Guthrie added another three runs in the second inning as the Lady Wildcats took an 8-0 lead. The third inning saw the Lady Mustangs come alive defensively as they put Trumann down 1-2-3 with an excellent show of fielding.
Following up their good showing of defense, the Lady Mustangs came on to score their only runs of the day, turning a single and a walk into an 8-2 game. Brewer then opened the bottom of the fourth with the game's only homer. Holman and Bailey Ballard added runs of their own to up the score to 11-2.
After they were unable to add additional runs in the top of the fifth inning, BIC gave way to the Lady Wildcats to finish up the matter. This they did when Begley singled to open the bottom of the fifth, stole second, then went home off a Brewer line drive to center field. The five inning-10 run rule was invoked there, ending the game and giving Trumann a 2-0 record.
Moye led the offense going, 3 for 4 with two runs and three steals. Benson, Guthrie and Brewer all went two for four with Brewer getting three runs, a steal and three RBIs, Guthrie getting two runs and two steals, and Benson one run and one steal. Brionna Crume closed out the game going 2 for 3 with two steals while Holman scored three runs off of a 1 for 4 day while knocking in two runs and stealing two bases. Begley was also 1 for 4 with a run and a steal. Ballard finished with one run.
On the mound, Brewer registered six strikeouts while giving up one hit, five walks and one run in three innings. Benson had three Ks, gave up three hits, walked two and gave up one run.
Flannigan took the loss for BIC.
