Byram of Gallatin, Tenn. and his teammates Charles Clark (Virginia Beach, Va.) Tywane Buchanon (Greater Portmore, Jamaica) and Pablo Naverette (Santiago, Chile) posted a time of 3:07.47 in the 4x400m. The quartet placed sixth in the NCAA competition.
Their time was just off FSU's best time of the year for the 4x400m. Byram, 19, a graduate of Station Camp High School in Gallatin, ran a 46.3 split on his leg of the 4x400m race.
Byram and his teammates won their sixth-straight ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship with a score of 138 points on March 1. The Seminoles began their outdoor season last weekend. Byram is competing primarily as a sprinter at FSU this year.
Earlier in the season, Byram held the fastest 200m time in the ACC with a 21.49. He matched his personal best mark in the 200m at the Tyson Invitational meet in Fayetteville with a 21.44. He continues to hold one of the top times in the ACC in the 200m.
He won back-to-back Tennessee Male Athlete of the Year awards in 2006 and 2007. He also won state 200m titles in 2006 and 2007. He also holds his high school's records in the 100m, 200m and 400m and in the long jump.
Brandon Byram, a sports management major, is the son of Billy Wayne Byram of Nashville, formerly of Trumann. He is the grandson of Velma Byram of Trumann and the late Bill Byram.
Byram was one of 12 FSU track athletes to win All-American honors at the NCAA competition. The men's team placed second in the NCAA meet behind Arizona State. The Seminoles finished three points behind Arizona State.
