Steven M. Jones, Equine Specialist and Associate Professor-beef cattle and equine for the University of Arkansas Little Rock Division of Agriculture, held an Equine seminar Tuesday, April 29 at the J.P. McCorkle arena in Black Oak. Hosted by the Three Rivers Livestock Association (TRLA), Jones spoke and demonstrated various aspects of both care for horses as well as horsemanship and training.
According to TRLA member, Jerry Rushing, about 50 people of all ages attended the event with 23 being individuals who had no experience with horses.
"There were even some people there who were planning on getting horses and wanted to get some training beforehand," said Rushing. "Safety was the main thing he talked about."
Rushing said the TRLA is planning on having other events of this sort in the future. On Saturday, July 24 there will be a trail ride at Cherry Valley. Additional information about the ride, the seminar or membership in the Three Rivers Livestock Association can be obtained by calling Rushing at 870-243-4044.
