Where does creativity come from?

Wednesday, May 28, 2008
I consider myself an extremely creative person. My creativity isn't focused on one area though. I love to do art projects and make things. I just have never settled on one particular area, such as painting landscapes or making jewelry.

I love those big books full of projects. I received one for Christmas and it was at the top of my favorite received gifts.

My home office is more of an art room than office. I have shelves of paint, canvasses propped up everywhere and jars of beads, buttons, sequins and other random bits.

My nephews, Rives and Garner, also love to play in my supplies. Garner's most recent art obsession is painting rocks and gluing things to them to make them into animals. Rives is more of an inventor and builder. He is always making things out of paper towel rolls, paper clips and string. I try to always keep plenty of supplies on hand. I enjoy making projects with them, because they can come up with some creative and funny ideas.

Even though I love to be creative and artsy, it isn't something that always pours from me. I have to be in the mood to be creative.

That sounds weird I know, but if I'm not really feeling a project, it never turns out well. I never know when my creative juice will start flowing, something random can get me itching to create. Lately I have been into painting abstracts onto large canvases.

I never know what I will be in the mood to create, so I have to keep a lot of random supplies at home. I have a semi-packrat side. I will think, hmm... I might be able to use that to do this or that and then end up using it for something totally different.

I wouldn't even consider my "art" spectacular or great, but I enjoy it, and I enjoy giving things I have created to my family and friends.

It is easy to tell when a creative mode has set in because I will have paint all over me and usually something hot glued and stuck in my hair or clothes.
