He was born in Athens, Ala., and had lived in northeast Arkansas most of his life. Reverend Brooks was called to the ministry at the age of 33, and was ordained on June 3, 1962 at Eastside Baptist Church in Trumann. During his ministry he served as pastor of McCormick Baptist and Eastside Baptist in Trumann; Black Oak Baptist in Tyronza; University Baptist in Jonesboro and West Ridge Baptist in West Ridge and was an Army veteran of WWII and retired after 15 years with the Singer company in Trumann. Reverend Brooks was dearly loved and cherished by his entire family and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Lorena Brooks; first wife, Waynooka (Pagan) Brooks; one son, Terry Brooks; second wife, Lois (Inman-Cagle) Brooks; three brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include his three daughters and spouses, Patricia and William McGlothlin of Marked Tree, Brenda and Joey Craig of Pleasant View, Tenn., Linda and Phillip Clark of Harrisburg; one son, Larry and spouse Lorna Brooks of Benbrook, Tex; one daughter-in-law, Charolet Brooks of Marked Tree; 12 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Speakman of Trumann and Ruby Baldwin of Vincennes, Ind., along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will at 10 a.m., Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Guy McMahan officiating. Burial will follow at the Tyronza Cemetery.
Grandsons Bill McGlothlin, Ty Craig, Michael Brooks, Larry Wayne Brooks, Nate Clark, Fernando Gonzalez, and Johnny Parnell will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Thompson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Eastside Baptist Church in Trumann.
