She was born to Jesse and Myra Glisson Graves of Plant City, Fla. on July 22, 1941.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, James R. Brinkley, Sr. of Trumann; brothers, Theodore Adams and William "Bennie" Graves and sister, Shirlene Graves Eakins.
Thelma is survived by her sisters and brothers, Ovedia (Graves) Bates, Jewel and Delma Graves, James and Helen Graves, Robert and Shirlee Graves; brother-in-law, Charles Eakins all of Plant City, Fla.; her children, Rhonda Brinkley and husband, Tom Turpin, of Seabeck Wash., James R. Brinkley, Jr of Tacoma, Wash., Richard "Danny" and wife,
Tammy of Yelm, Wash., Joseph and wife April, Streator, Ill., Sarina Brinkley and husband, Jeff Pierce of Bremerton, Wash.; 19 very loved grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Thelma will be greatly missed and remembered through her delicious Southern Style Cookin'. She was always a Mama before anything else and well known in the community as the "neighborhood Mama." She was always loving, nurturing and faithful to the Lord, Jesus.
A memorial will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 15 at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. The family will be joining her remains with her beloved husband, James R. Brinkley, Sr, who went to be with the Lord in 1986. Any family or friends are invited to attend and feel free to honor her with a few words about her.
To get to the cemetery from Jonesboro, traveling south on Highway 1 and turn left at the Jonesboro Tractor Co. on to Hwy 163. Travel south on Hwy 163 for four miles and turn right on to CR 476 (gravel road) and go one mile and turn right on a white chat lane which goes the cemetery. The cemetery is laid out on both sides of the lane which leads to the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Before you turn on the CR746 the Poinsett County Line is one mile south on Hwy 163.
