Pair arrested on drug charges in Trumann

Wednesday, July 16, 2008
Leslie Henry, 51, of 17130 Lilies Lane and Nicholas Meeks,52, of 25898 Roden Road, both in Trumann face charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver; possession or use of drug paraphernalia to plant, grow, etc.; possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use and possession of controlled substance-"marijuana."

The charges stem from a consent to search which was executed at Meeks home at 5:54 p.m. Sunday, July 13.

According to arresting officer Deputy Chris Holt of the Poinsett County Sheriff's Department, he, with the assistance of Deputies New and Wright, approached Meeks at his home and requested to search the home. Meeks, who was under order from Judge Steve Inboden based on a previous arrest on July 3 to allow a "deemed necessary" search at any time, at first asked that the search not begin until his girlfriend returned.

The officers complied with the request and followed Meeks into his back yard where Meeks asked if the officers wished to play some horseshoes. They refused, but when Holt approached the back door of the house where Wright was talking to Henry, he noticed a strong chemical smell coming from the house.

Also at that time Holt saw a number of tanks and jugs sitting at the back door and a black garbage bag containing a number of items consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine. Both suspects were immediately taken into custody and searched.

In the search, Meeks was found with 13 grams of meth and $4,160. in cash. The two suspects were advised of their rights then taken into custody whereupon Meeks signed a consent form and the officers began searching the home.

Investigator Mark Robinson and Arkansas State Police officer Keat Cohn came to the scene and processed the evidence.

Meeks and Henry were then transported to the detention center to await a probable cause hearing.

I agree that the drug problems in trumann are out of hand, but if you haven't been there then maybe you really don't know. It is a hard life to be into. People make mistakes, everyone does. Some people just make the worst kind of mistake. Once you get stuck in that rut it is the hardest thing you will ever do to get out of it. Just don't judge someone before you know what their life is like, one day you will find yourself being judged for your mistakes and you won't like it.

It is about time the county gets these drugs out of here. We have dealed with this kind of thing for a long time now. My family lives just right down the road from where this happened and we have had things come up missing for some time now. Now maybe my family and I will be able to sleep at night knowing that they are in jail for what they have done, and that is where they need to be. So I just want to say THANK YOU to the county for their hard work.
