Trumann woman stabbed

Friday, August 22, 2008
Two Poinsett County residents face assault and battery charges for allegedly stabbing and clubbing a Trumann woman during a fight.

Dana M. Rhoads, 28 of 12320 Renshaw Lane,Trumann, and William J. Burrow, 30, of 6849 Hwy. 163 South, Harrisburg, were charged with first degree battery and aggravated assault following an early morning altercation on August 9, Poinsett County Sheriff's Department said.

Officials said Rhoads allegedly stabbed Kim Heavner, 31, of Trumann, four times with a knife after the two got into a fight on McDaniel Road. Heavener was traveling with a group of people in a pick-up truck and stopped on McDaniel Road around midnight to talk some people in a car. Heavner got out of the truck to talk to Rhodes and the two began to fight. In addition to the stab wounds, Heavner was also allegedly struck in the head with a club by Burrow, officials said.

The driver of the pick-up, Gary Williams, rammed the suspect's car as it attempted to leave the scene but was unable to stop it from speeding off and the truck ended up in a ditch. The three male witnesses were unable to get the truck out of the ditch and carried Heavner down road about 50 feet and later phoned the Sheriff's Department at a nearby residence.

Heavner was taken to St. Bernards Hospital in Jonesboro.
