The Lady Cats fell to Trumann in regular action, but made it to the finals in the ASU Playday Tournament.
Paragould knocked off the senior girls 25-18, 25-27, 25-11 and 25-14 in a road match Sept. 29.
Hailey Brewer had 13 kills and Bailye Ballard added 33 digs for the Ladycats. Morgan McKenzie had 22 assists, Lacy Staten 19 digs and eight kills, Ceclia Moye had 21 digs and Sarah Cooper eight kills.
Head coach Matt Mink said the girls played hard but still seemed tired from the weekend tournament.
"It seemed like we were still kind of recovering from Saturday in that first game," Mink said. "We came back from four or five points down late in the second game and rallied to beat them in the second game. The third and fourth game it seemed like we just didn't have our legs. It seemed like we were moving in slow motion at times. Overall, we played hard and that is all I can ask of the girls. It just seemed like they were just a little wore out from Saturday.
The loss dropped the Ladycats to 6-10 on the season, but Mink said the team is getting better each week after a slow start.
"We are playing a lot better than we did earlier in the season," Mink said. "It's just we are playing really tough teams and you have to play your best every night and every point. Sometimes we don't do that. We take a point off. But they are improving week by week and playing harder. We just haven't caught a break it seems like. But I am very pleased by their effort."
The Ladycats put in a 12 hour day at the ASU Playday on Sept. 27, making it to the finals before losing to Southland.
The team went 2-4 in pool play, but beat Doniphan in the first round 25-18, 25-14 and knocked off Harrisburg in the semifinals 25-11, 25-23.
Southland got their revenge in the finals for an earlier loss downing the Ladycats 25-21, 25-20. and 20-25.
Hailey Brewer had 52 kills and 22 blocks on the day. Morgan McKenzie racked up 69 assists and Bailye Ballard contributed 44 digs. Cecilia Moye went 47-52 serving with seven aces and 38 digs, Lacy Staten went 42-47 serving with 29 digs and 28 kills, Daria Seay went 28-30 serving with 10 kills, Kayli Wright had 35 digs, Erica Blagg went 19-21 serving and Hollie Goodwin went 7-13 serving.
Mink said the team started off sluggish but got better as the day went on.
"We had played Southland earlier in the day and had no problems with them," Mink said. "But Southland got better as the day went along too. It felt like we were just worn out with Homecoming the night before and kind of a long day. But overall, I was pleased. We played great at times but had times where we struggled and fought through it and made it to the finals. Anytime you make it to the finals in a tournament you have got to be happy."
In other action, the Ladycats lost to Valley View 25-20, 21-25, 25-14, 25-13 on Sept. 23.
Hailey Brewer had 13 kills, Bailye Ballard 24 digs, Morgan McKenzie had 12 assists, Cecilia Moye had 11 digs and Kayli Wright added 20 digs.
